2025 Flathead Classic: Growth, Community, and What’s Next
Friday marked the end of an intense five-month stretch and the start of something just as important — reflection. Looking back over the last 18 months, it’s hard not to feel proud of how far the event, the team, and the wider fishing community have come.
A Community That Keeps Growing
One of the greatest joys of being part of the Flathead Classic and the Gold Coast Sportfishing Club is seeing how connected the community has become. I’ve always loved helping bring to life the faces, brands, and stories that make our local fishing scene so special.
From the early morning boat launches to the late-night hub laughs, it’s the people who make it what it is. Every angler, sponsor, volunteer, and supporter plays a role in creating something bigger than a competition — it’s a celebration of community spirit.
Building a Stronger Digital Foundation
Over the past year, a big focus has been on strengthening the club’s digital ecosystem — updating the website’s, improving membership systems, and growing social media presence.
These changes weren’t just about technology. They were about connection. It’s been really humbling to see the committee and members feel a greater sense of belonging through these updates. Whether it’s easier access to information, more streamlined communication, or a simple post that sparks conversation — it all adds up to a stronger, more engaged community.
Growth, Lessons, and Looking Ahead
Growth never comes without a few challenges, and this period has definitely been one of learning. Recognising the need to bring in more external support was a turning point. It’s helped cement the confidence that we’re taking the right steps — not just for the Flathead Classic’s short-term success, but for its long-term stability.
These efforts go far beyond the event itself. The Flathead Classic continues to make a significant economic impact on Queensland’s tourism and local business sectors. Every year, it draws people together, supports small businesses, and showcases the best of our coastal lifestyle.
Gratitude and Momentum
As this chapter wraps up, I’m feeling grateful — for the committee, the volunteers, the sponsors, and everyone who’s helped bring this event to life. The energy, the collaboration, and the community spirit make it all worth it.
Here’s to building on that momentum and continuing to grow something truly special.
